Pearland is a booming Houston suburb and one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. With its fruit-inspired name, you might think it was nothing more than an “agricultural Eden,” but with a fast-growing population of over 100,000 people, there are always great things to see and do in the area. The best part? You can have a lot of fun without breaking the bank, thanks to the huge number of cheap and free things to do in Pearland.

Tom Bass Regional Park– This is one huge park and they have it all. You can go fishing, golfing, running, and more, all in one area. They have multiple playground areas. You will find covered seating areas and plenty of areas to bbq while you watch the wildlife. Be sure to check out the sand volleyball courts, community gardens, dog park, and the amphitheater!
Southdown Park– This park is complete with walking trails, covered and uncovered playgrounds, a splash pad, volleyball courts, and even an off-leash dog park! They have free outdoor concerts going on this summer through the end of June. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and a picnic. Check out their upcoming concerts here.
Zychlinski Park– A small neighborhood park named after the founder of Pearland, this is a great place for walking trails and basketball. The park also offers seating for picnics. While you’re there, be sure to check out the War Memorial and the Pearland Time Capsule!
Some other great outdoor spots in Pearland include Independence Park, Centennial Park, and the Shadow Creek Ranch Nature Trail. Simply put, there are plenty of fun outdoor things to do in Pearland!
Art & History
Pear Scape Art Sculpture Trail– An initiative to support the arts and encourage tourism has resulted in twenty painted pears placed around town. The pears are about four feet high and feature a variety of colorful designs by artists. They are placed in ten different locations so make a scavenger-hunt out of it! 1940 Air Terminal Museum– A beautiful building with vintage aircraft and a carefully curated museum lies right next to Hobby Airport. Admission to the museum is cheap and there is plenty to see from galleries to films. It’s also a great place to do some plane spotting- watch for planes landing and taking off at Hobby Airport.
Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad Depot– Learn about the history of the railroads in the area and how they were used at the Railroad Depot. View the structures from the outside and read about the history of the railroad. The facilities are not currently open to the public due to damage so don’t expect a tour. But, you can still take in the sights from outside, including a Southern-Pacific caboose.
Kids’ Backporch Productions– Plays based on classics in Children’s literature and historical events provide an opportunity for children to earn their acting chops. Upcoming performances of Narnia are appropriate for the whole family! Children and students are just $9, seniors are $12, and adult tickets cost $15. Bravo!
Sri Meenakshi Temple– One of the best and most unique things to do in Pearland is also completely free! This is a Hindu Temple which is open to the public, just make sure you take off your shoes! The temple features stunning, bright white architecture and a canteen serving vegetarian Indian cuisine.
Pearwood Skate Center– For the same price as a movie, you can get a work out in while also having fun. Pearland’s best skating rink has been open for over 35 years and offers open skate as well as skating and roller-derby classes. They also have a savings program where you can get coupons delivered right to your inbox.
Kid N Play – This indoor playground is an amazing place to take the kids to burn off some energy. With a two-story play structure, a toddler play zone, and super neat stations where kids get the chance to pretend to be doctors, hairdressers, and other professions.
Recreation Center & Natatorium– The facility is open to members and non members for a fee and offers a wide range of activities to keep fit. Swimming, an indoor track, basketball courts, a yoga room, and more are all available at the center. Be sure to check their schedule before you go in case of closures.
Shadow Creek Ranch Disc Golf– There are tons of gyms and fitness classes in Pearland but if that isn’t your thing, you can get fit with a fun game of disc golf. It’s like frisbee but with a goal post. Just throw the disc and try to make it inside the chain-link baskets.
Shop & Dine
Pearland Town Center– With plenty of big-name stores as well as locally-owned boutiques, this is a great place to get your shopping done and it’s one of the most popular things to do in Pearland. When you’ve exhausted yourself, you can stop in for a bite at any of their restaurants- over 20 to choose from! The center frequently hosts other events such as outdoor movie night, Farmers Markets, and the upcoming Opry on the Square.
Downtown Antique & Boutiques– Historic downtown Pearland offers an array of locally-owned boutiques, antique stores, and consignment shops. You can look for money-saving deals at the Flea Market or find specialty items like hand-made glass beads.
Arkham Comics & Games– Get your fix of nostalgia and feed your inner-geek with a stop at a comic and game shop. Take the kids to experience real comic books, both old and new. The shop houses all genres of comics as well as clothing, art books, novelties, and more.
