Depot Day 2019

Tomball used to be one of those towns where if you blinked, you might just miss it. Back in the day, it was merely a train stop. Today, it’s a bustling community.

But the history and charm of yesteryear remains in place at the historic museum and depot in downtown Tomball.

And once per year, the people of Tomball celebrate that past.

Saturday, Nov. 9, is the annual Tomball Depot Day — a day filled with railroad memories, highly detailed model railways, live music and plenty of community fun. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the depot, 201 S. Elm St. in Tomball.

Depot Day celebrates the fascinating railroad history that helped create Tomball and shaped the early history of Texas. The Lone Star State’s railway history dates back to 1850 with the creation of the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos & Colorado Railways. These railroads connected Texas to both coasts throughout the 1800s and 1900s, bringing in people, jobs, and cattle. In many ways, these railroads were responsible for fostering the creation of the state we all love today.

Like all events at the depot, Depot Day 2019 is absolutely free, so you have no choice but to bring the whole family down for this event that’s recognized as a “National Model Railroad Event.” Plus visitors receive a commemorative gift while supplies last!

The historic 1907 Depot is a mere 28 miles northwest of downtown Houston, giving everyone in the Great Houston area an opportunity to partake in all the fun.

As mentioned, Depot Day at the Tomball Railroad Depot features detailed model railroad exhibits, like the “O” scale Tomball & Walden Railway and the “Z” scale Golden-Blackhawk & Central City Railway.

In past years, the Houston Area G Gaugers Club has been on hand to present an incredible, 800-square-foot layout just outside the Dept.

And for the history buffs out there, Depot Day includes an impressive collection of railroad artifacts.
