It’s that time of year again. The 30th annual BBQ & Chili Cook-Off once again returns to Houston’s very own Traders Village. The event is once again hosted by the Houston Metro Go-Texan-Cy-Fair Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and proceeds from the event will go towards sponsoring scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD Seniors. To date, the Rodeo’s educational commitment has raised over $600,000 in scholarship funds.
The BBQ & Chili Cook-Off will be held on January 26 and 27 from 11 am to 5 pm each day and is open to the public. BBQ and chili will be sold on site, so come hungry. The Cook-Off features multiple categories for chefs to show off the best of what Texas BBQ has to offer: brisket, pork ribs, chicken, and dutch oven. If you think you have what it takes to compete alongside some of the best BBQ chefs in the world, a $150 entry fee will get you a 40’x40’ space and an entry into each of the categories. Visit their website for more information.
In addition to BBQ, the event will feature a chili cook-off, a margarita contest, and a Bloody Mary contest. Registration for the chili cook-off is just $20 for adults and $5 for junior chefs, while registration for the margarita and Bloody Mary contests are $10 each.
In addition to the BBQ and Chili Cook-Offs, attendees will be able to take in all of the unique attractions Traders Village has to offer. Traders Village is Houston’s largest outdoor market, offering amusement park-style rides (get your wristband for unlimited rides for $9.99 plus tax!), food and drinks for sale, and some of the most eclectic and exciting shopping Texas has to offer.
Competing chefs can set up on Friday, while Cook-Off activities take place Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, January 27 from 11 am to 5 pm each day.
Traders Village is located at 7979 N. Eldridge Rd., Houston, Texas 77041. For more information, visit the official Traders Village event page for this exciting event!
