One of the world’s most beloved tales is coming to Houston in a special youth production that will show off the best of our city’s up-and-coming stars of the stage. This August, the Performing Arts Academy of the A.D. Players at the George Theater will put on an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz in a production which captures all of the musical magic and imaginative wonder of the iconic film. The production is being performed by a cast made up entirely of young performers between the ages of 5 and 18. Best of all? You can get half-off tickets to The Wizard of Oz if you act now.

The tale of Dorothy, Toto, and the Land of Oz was first brought to life by L. Frank Baum’s fanciful children’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz published in 1900. Two years later, a popular Broadway musical adaptation took the theater world by storm. However, the most well-known adaptation without a doubt remains the 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film  The Wizard of Oz which is now widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential films in cinema history.

The A.D. Players’ youth production of The Wizard of Oz will bring the story of Dorothy and the yellow brick road to life on the stage here in Houston, complete with witches and wizards, munchkins and monkeys, and of course the lion, tin man, scarecrow, and tornado. The Wizard of Oz will be performed on Friday, August 17 at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 18 at 2:30 and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 19 at 2:30 p.m.
