uptown holiday lighting

Post Oak Boulevard has just completed an incredible transformation, and what better way to celebrate than with a fantastical light display to kick off the official holiday season? This annual, free event attracts more than 100,000 people to the Boulevard between San Felipe and Westheimer to enjoy several season-themed activities. Make plans to join in on the fun on Thursday, November 28!

The 32nd Annual Uptown Holiday Lighting will start on Thanksgiving at 4 p.m., after you’ve had the opportunity to enjoy your fill of turkey, stuffing and oh so much pumpkin (or pecan) pie. A beloved Houston tradition, this year’s event will feature some time-honored family-friendly traditions like fireworks, a ceremonial tree lighting, and a visit from Santa Claus himself!

But no one is resting on their laurels – there’s plenty of new and exciting features and activities planned for the evening as well. The revitalized Post Oak Boulevard includes more than 300 all-new, 20-foot-tall holiday trees that adorn the street from Richmond Avenue to the West Loop. These incredible artisan-fabricated trees will showcase a mesmerizing multi-colored light show with nearly 17 million color combination possibilities. Attendees will also notice other aesthetic improvements to the area, including extensive pedestrian lighting, enhanced landscaping and wider sidewalks.

A Spectacular Holiday Celebration

The event kicks off at 4 p.m., with the Merry Holiday Stage Show starting an hour later. You can look forward to performances from several local entertainers, including the Houston Show Choir, Mixteco Ballet, Houston Concert Band and A.D. Players.

Find you’re getting hungry despite all that cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes? Don’t worry – several holiday treats, like funnel cakes, kettle corn, apple cider, and hot cocoa will be available for purchase. And to make sure we’re truly embracing the holiday spirit, a portion of all concession sales will benefit the Houston Area Urban League and Be an Angel charities.

When it’s time for Ol’ Kris Kringle to meet his adoring fans, his doting partner Mrs. Claus will serve as conductor for Houston’s largest holiday sing-along, welcoming him to the main stage. And then it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for…the lighting of the new holiday trees, fireworks spectacular, and amazing new light show!

What a perfect way to official start the holiday season in Houston. For more information on the free Uptown Holiday Lighting event, visit Uptown Houston’s official website or check out their Facebook event page.
