Gallery Furniture’s Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mack” around these parts, has announced a new collaborative initiative with Fort Bend County to open a resource center aimed at helping people seeking employment.

The Work Texas Resource Center, located inside Gallery Furniture’s Grand Parkway location (7227 West Grand Parkway South, Richmond), will offer free job coaching, mental health resources, and meal resources, all with the goal of helping residents get back to work during the pandemic that has left so many without a job.

Job Coaching Services

One key element of the new Work Texas Resource Center will be job coaching and support. Available, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, services will include resume writing, human resources coaching, mock interviews, networking, assistance with online job searching, LinkedIn account setup assistance, and more.

“We will be helping people get new resumes, coaching them up for job hiring skills, getting them LinkedIn profiles,” Mattress Mack said when speaking of the new initiative. “We are here with Work Texas to help people get back to work in Texas.”

“We strive to uplift our fellow Houstonians and this initiative will create employment opportunities and polish the skills of individuals who wish to work or advance in their organization. This will motivate and enable a lot of students and adults to regain their confidence and join the workforce,” the website reads.

Those interested in getting assistance are encouraged to reserve a spot online to set up an appointment.

Mental Health Resources

In addition to helping out-of-work individuals find a job, the new resource center will also offer mental health resources on weekdays from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Fort Bend County Behavioral Health Services and GHI will be on hand to help connect residents with the resources they need for stress and anxiety management, parenting, and more.

No appointments are required for those interested in these resources.

Food Distribution Services

Finally, the new resource center inside Gallery Furniture’s Grand Parkway location will also offer local residents contactless, drive-thru meal distribution on certain dates. Upcoming meal distribution dates include from 2-7 pm on:

  • Fri, June 12
  • Tues, June 16
  • Fri, June 19
  • Tues, June 23
