FRIDAY

Enjoy classical music — The Houston Symphony and Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods is gifting the city a free concert tonight for Valentine’s Day. Its scheduled guest artist is stuck in the winter storm! Music features Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Doors open at 6:30 pm for the 7:30 pm performance at Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana

Watch an outdoor movie for Valentine’s Day –– Central Green is giving you a cheap option for a Valentine’s Day date! Bring a picnic and watch It Could Happen to You (with Nicolas Cage) under the outdoor big screen. Movie begins at dusk. Alcohol is not permitted in the park, however. Central Green is located at 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd. in Katy.

SATURDAY

Meet and learn from authors — Don’t miss the Montgomery County Book Festival Saturday if you love meeting and learning from authors. The free event featuring more than 40 authors provides writing workshops, breakout panels, book signings, teen zone for teens to meet authors and craft, and a children’s zone. The event kicks off at 10 am with Keynote Jenny Trout. Located at Lone Star College–Montgomery, 3200 College Park, Conroe from 10 am – 5 pm.

Play outdoors — The NFL Play 60 hits Katy Saturday, February 15, 2:30 pm – 4 pm. This free community event encourages outdoor activity. Play outdoors and meet football stars including Eric Heitmann (formerly of the 49ers and  Katy High grad), Amobi Okoye (formerly of the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears), and more. All kids will receive a free dry-fit Play 60 t-shirt. Located at Central Green at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. NFL Play 60 encourages 60 minutes of daily activity and launched in 2007 to tackle childhood obesity.

Count birds in nature — Head to the Nature Discovery Center Saturday morning to participate in the Great Bird Count. This national event encourages folks to count birds in their backyard or parks anytime between February 14-17. Join volunteers from 9 am – 10:30 am for the count at Nature Discovery Center. Families are welcome! Bring binoculars if you can. Located in Bellaire at 7112 Newcastle.

Build a kiteAsia Society Texas is hosting another Creation Station Saturday all about Asian Kites. Learn about the significance of kites in Asia and create your own. This free event for all ages is 1 pm – 3 pm at Asia Society Texas, 1370 Southmore Blvd.

Laugh at a mime — David Zucker brings Poetry in Motion to Houston as a free family series at Cypress Creek FACE. Zucker combines mime, acting, audience participation, props, puppets and more to bring poetry to life. Begins at 10 am. No tickets required to this free event. Located at 6823 Cypresswood at The Centrum.

Get creative at a museum — Get ready for Contemporary Art Museum‘s Family Day: Ready, Set, Made Saturday, noon – 4 pm. The free monthly event encourages creativity and family time. This month’s project is centered around abstract art using everyday materials. CAM is located at 5216 Montrose Blvd.

Learn container gardening — If you’re short on space, don’t miss this class on Container Herb Gardening, Saturday, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm. Guests will learn which herbs to pair together, different containers available, and how to create a specialized herb garden. Located at Wabash Antiques & Feed Store, 5701 Washington Ave.

Browse for summer fun — The 18th annual Camp Fair & Summer Vacation Expo will be held this weekend and next at four different malls. Saturday, Memorial City Mall (10 am – 4 pm) and Sunday at The Woodlands Mall (noon to 5 pm). The event features more than 60 different organizations representing overnight, day camps, sports camps and more for Houston-area kids. Love local art — Explore local art at the East End Arts Market Saturday, noon – 5 pm. The event features local art is a variety of mediums such as photography, jewelry, toys, clothing, metal art, accessories, and more. Chat one-on-one with the arts, enjoy the lively atmosphere and family-friendly environment. Located at East End Studio Gallery, 708 Ste C Telephone Rd.

SUNDAY

Celebrate animalsAnimal Influences is the theme of this month’s Bayou Bend Family Day, Sunday, February 16, 1 pm – 5 pm at Bayou Bend Collection and Garden. Enjoy music, demonstrations, performances, craft workshops, activities, giveaways, and more. Bayou Bend is located at 6003 Memorial.
