What: Challenge yourself and see where your limit is at or simply watch others do that in the iconic Ironman Race! This year’s course will blend together PR chasers dream course and the beachside bliss atmosphere. 

Participating athletes will start the course with a saltwater swim in the Bay at Moody Gardens. Then, they’ll hop on a bike course along the Texas Gulf Coast and cap it all with a spectator-filled run. Cheer the participants or get to enjoy some of Galveston’s most famous beaches while watching the race.

What: Get to see Battleship Texas up close and out of the water! Every Sunday until April 30th, there will be limited tours on the dry dock at Gulf Copper. It will be around an hour-long walk and space will be limited. Also, there is a strict dress code. You have to wear full-length pants and close-toed shoes with good traction. Hard hats and eye protection will be provided on-site. The tour is also for those only 16 years old and above. And you have to sign up online since no tickets will be sold at the gate.

This Galveston Seawall beach is close to various beachfront restaurants and tourist attractions, including Pleasure Pier. On the outside of the building at the Juneteenth Legacy Project Headquarters art gallery, you can see the magnificent, 5,000-square-foot artwork symbolizing the independence of Black people in Galveston. The gallery features sculptures and paintings by local Black artists as well as a space for introspection. The Juneteenth Legacy Headquarters are at 22nd and Strand Street.

East End Theater Company

Island ETC (the east-end theatre company)

Island ETC is Galveston County’s only professional repertory theatre company and stages 5 to 6 productions a year. What once was called the Strand Street Theatre, is now operating as Island ETC — the East End Theatre Company. Through the generosity of local patrons, the theatre reopened in July 2009 after being devasted by Hurricane Ike. The re-opening stage was the production of Cabaret, and this performance skyrocketed the theatre company into becoming a household name in Galveston.
