What: Dickens on The Strand, presented by the Galveston Historical Foundation, is in its 49th year. The annual festival, which has excellent family entertainment, musical performances, unique events, and more, is held the first weekend in December. The Dickens on The Strand celebration includes parades, nonstop entertainment on four stages, new additions including Tiny Tim’s Play Land and Shopkeeper Skills Village, and wandering characters.

Dickens on The Strand is based on 19th-century Victorian London. A variety of holiday-themed gifts, food and beverages, crafts made in the Victorian style, apparel, jewelry, and holiday decorations are all sold by costumed sellers from street stalls and rolling carts.

East End Theater Company

Island ETC (the east-end theatre company)

Island ETC is Galveston County’s only professional repertory theatre company and stages 5 to 6 productions a year. What once was called the Strand Street Theatre, is now operating as Island ETC — the East End Theatre Company. Through the generosity of local patrons, the theatre reopened in July 2009 after being devasted by Hurricane Ike. The re-opening stage was the production of Cabaret, and this performance skyrocketed the theatre company into becoming a household name in Galveston.
