Free, fun, and right in the heart of Richmond. Clay Park checks every box for a spontaneous family outing.

The playground is built on soft, rubberized surfacing with sections designed for ages 5–12, so younger kids can play hard without you wincing every time someone takes a tumble.

Right beside it, the splash pad draws rave reviews from local families and is easily the highlight of any warm-weather visit. Toss in a basketball court, a walking trail, shaded picnic pavilions, and a washer/horseshoe pit, and you’ve got a full morning of activities set for the kids without spending a cent.

You’ll know you’ve found the right park the moment the kids spot the windmill at Harvest Green.

The Kid Corral is a one-of-a-kind playground with equipment for all ages and shaded seating for parents nearby, with a giant windmill right in the middle.

A splash pad with water spouts also sits right alongside the playground, so on hot afternoons, the kids can move between the two without missing a beat.

Just nearby, Harvest Green’s North Park offers a custom climbable barn structure as the playground centerpiece, with graduated play challenges across multiple levels, a 16-foot red tube slide off the third floor, and toddler-friendly playhouses surrounding it.

Between the two parks, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a reason to leave.

Step into Historic Downtown Richmond and you’ll find the Fort Bend Museum waiting quietly among the oak and magnolia trees.

The renovated gallery walks you through Fort Bend County’s full story, from Stephen F. Austin’s 1822 colony through World War II, using dioramas, artifacts, and thoughtfully curated displays that give the timeline real texture.

House tours of the 1883 Moore Home and 1855 Long-Smith Cottage are available throughout the week, and the guides who lead them bring these spaces to life in a way that no exhibit panel alone can.

For school-age kids, the hands-on education programs here are genuinely impressive. Activities include Textiles in Texas, Digging into the Past, a One Room Schoolhouse experience, Chore Time, and Victorian Games.

There’s also a “Museum on the Move” traveling program if you’d like the experience to come to your school or group instead.

Built in 1855 by Jane Long’s grandson on land once owned by the “Mother of Texas” herself, the Long-Smith Cottage is one of the oldest buildings in Fort Bend County, and standing inside it, that weight of history is easy to feel.

A guided tour will walk you through what life in Fort Bend looked like in the 1860s, with furnishings that include hand-made Texas pieces and several articles that once belonged to Jane Long. It’s the kind of tour that sparks real curiosity, especially for kids who love a good story tied to a real place.

Beyond the cottage tour, you and the kids can experience life as a pioneer, take a lesson in a one-room schoolhouse, play old-fashioned games, and more.

The cottage tour is available as an add-on to general Fort Bend Museum admission and pairs naturally with the neighboring 1883 Moore Home.
