What to Expect at the Texas City Touch a Truck Event

The trucks may be the reason kids come running, but they’re far from the only thing happening on 6th Street. The Texas City Touch a Truck event packs the morning with things to climb on, ride, build, play with, and explore, so there’s plenty to keep little ones busy even after they’ve had their fill of giant vehicles.
Explore More Than 100 Big Vehicles
The main attraction is a lineup of more than 100 vehicles that kids can climb on and explore up close. Expect everything from cranes and bulldozers to SWAT vehicles, fire engines, ambulances, military vehicles, helicopters, boats, and other working machines.
It’s a rare chance for kids to get inside vehicles they normally only see from the road and take a closer look at what they can do.
With such a huge variety of vehicles, every truck fan also gets their fill of fun, whether they’re fascinated by emergency vehicles, construction equipment, or anything with a really big engine.
Take a Ride in a Monster Truck
Want to go from looking at the big trucks to actually riding in one? Monster truck rides will be available during the event for $10 per ride. These are a separate paid activity within the event.
Pumpkin Decorating, Bouncy Houses & More
Once you and the kids are done exploring the trucks, you can then move on to the fall section of the event. Here, you and the little ones can decorate pumpkins, bounce around, tackle obstacle courses, play games, and dig into giant corn boxes.
This year, there will also be face painting, balloon animals, music, vendors, and food trucks.
A Morning Silent Hour
For families who prefer a quieter start, the first hour of the event is designated as a sensory-friendly Silent Hour from 9 to 10 a.m. During this time, horns and sirens aren’t allowed, giving children who are sensitive to loud noises a chance to explore the event with less of the usual truck-and-emergency-vehicle noise.
After Silent Hour, the event continues as usual from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A Little Something for the Grown-Ups, Too
This year’s event is also introducing a Zen Zone at the 6th Street Community Plaza. Families can take a break from the bustle with free cold water, massages, a jazz concert, and other relaxing activities.
And if the kids are old enough for a little Halloween fright, Terror Isle will offer haunted house visits for $5.
Event Schedule & Location Details

The Texas City Touch a Truck takes over several blocks of historic downtown 6th Street, so this is more of a walk-around event than a single attraction with one entrance. So, give yourself enough time to explore the different sections, especially if you’re bringing little ones who will want to stop at just about every truck along the way.
- Date: Saturday, October 17, 2026
- Time: 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
- Silent Hour: 9–10 a.m., with no sirens or horns
- Location: Historic downtown 6th Street, Texas City, TX
- Admission: Free
Parking
The city hasn’t announced a dedicated parking lot for the 2026 event, so your best bet is to look for legal street parking or available public parking around the downtown area.
6th Street has both angled and parallel parking, with additional off-street parking throughout the surrounding downtown area.
Because the event spans several blocks and is expected to draw a large crowd, arriving earlier in the morning should make finding a spot easier. If you’re attending during the 9–10 a.m. Silent Hour, this is also a good reason to arrive close to the start rather than trying to find parking later in the morning.
For GPS directions, the city lists the Showboat Pavilion at 416 6th Street N., Texas City, TX 77590 as a central address for the event.
History & Background of Texas City Touch a Truck

What started in 2012 as a small community gathering has grown into one of Texas City’s beloved family events. Each year, Texas City Touch a Truck brings families together for a hands-on look at the vehicles and equipment used by local first responders, city departments, and other community teams.
The event was created to spark curiosity and learning, giving children a chance to see how these machines work and meet the people who operate them. It’s a simple way to show kids how the vehicles they see around town help keep their community running.

If you’re driving in from Houston, League City, Dickinson, Friendswood, Kemah, or the Clear Lake area, check traffic conditions before you leave and allow some extra time for the drive. Road work along the I-45 corridor can affect travel times, particularly on busy weekend mornings.
Once you’re downtown, expect to spend the morning on foot. Comfortable shoes are a good idea, especially for younger children who may want to explore the event from one end of 6th Street to the other.
For families with toddlers or preschoolers, a stroller may also come in handy. And if you’re bringing a child who is sensitive to noise, the event’s 9–10 a.m. Silent Hour may be worth planning your arrival around.
