About YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®

The YMCA launched Healthy Kids Day® in 1992 as part of a national effort to improve the health and well-being of children and families. At the time, the organization noticed that many kids became less active during the summer months when school routines paused. Healthy Kids Day® was created to inspire families to keep kids moving, learning, and exploring during that time.
The event gives families opportunities to learn about wellness while enjoying activities that promote movement, creativity, and positive routines. It also helps parents discover simple ways to support healthy habits at home.
Many YMCA locations share practical guidance on nutrition, exercise, and daily routines that help children grow and stay active throughout the year. At the same time, families connect with local organizations and community resources that support children’s well-being.
Today, more than 1,000 YMCA centers across the United States host Healthy Kids Day® each year. Many communities also see it as the unofficial start of summer, which encourages many families to plan activities that keep kids active and engaged while school is out.
