Family-Friendly Houston Halloween 2026 Events
ArBOOretum Fall Festival
Trade the usual sidewalk trick-or-treating for a candy hunt through the woods at ArBOOretum.
The 155-acre Arboretum becomes a Halloween trail with candy stations tucked among the native habitat, giving kids plenty of treats to collect while they learn about the creatures around them.
And yes, there are real animals involved. You might spot a barred owl or native snake along the way, which beats a plastic spider dangling from someone’s porch.
Keep exploring and you’ll find a Bat Cave, pumpkin patch, stilt-walking scarecrow and character photo ops, with food trucks ready when the candy starts wearing off.
One thing to plan for: there’s no onsite parking, so you’ll need to take the shuttle from 1850 Post Oak Park Drive.
Last entry is at 3 p.m., and tickets are cheaper before event day.
When: Saturday, October 17, 2026 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The 105-acre open-air flea market runs its Halloween trail every weekend in October, sending kids through hundreds of vendor booths, food stands, amusement rides and costumed performers.
The trail is split into two experiences: younger kids can stick to the side with friendly characters, crafts and face painting, while older children can head toward the spookier surprises.
Once the candy bags are full, all-day ride wristbands are available for $14.99 so you and the whole family can enjoy the rest of the village regardless if they’re spooky or not.

Little Wrangler’s Trick or Treat at George Ranch Historical Park

Most trick-or-treat trails take you through neighborhoods lined with ranch-style houses. At Little Wrangler’s Trick or Treat, you actually get to trick-or-treat through a historic working ranch.
The 23,000-acre George Ranch in Richmond becomes the setting for a Halloween route through four historic home sites dating from the 1830s to the 1930s, with candy waiting at each stop. You’ll pass an 1830s log cabin that was among the earliest settlements in Southeast Spanish Texas, a post-Civil War prairie home and an 1890s Victorian mansion.
Along the way, costumed interpreters share how 19th-century Texans observed All Hallows’ Eve.
There’s more to do after the candy run, including a pumpkin photo op and more seasonal activities. The ranch is about 30 miles southwest of downtown Houston, so give yourself some travel time.

The Cursed Cauldron Pop-Up Bar
The Cursed Cauldron has come a long way since 2023, when it started as a two-week Halloween takeover of a Washington Ave ramen spot. By 2025, co-founder Alexis Mijares had given it a permanent home at Botonica, her Latin spirits cocktail bar in River Oaks.
Now you can settle in across two floors and three elaborately decorated spaces: The Apotheca Room, Nightshade Parlor, and Coven’s Haunt, each styled like a witch’s apothecary, complete with floating candles over the staircase and a live actor leading you into the space.
The cocktails lean into Botonica’s Latin spirits focus, with tequila, mezcal, pisco, and rum dressed up for Halloween.
Try Oshun’s Offering with Bacardi rum, pumpkin, brown butter, almond, orange liqueur and lime, or go for the Hexpresso Martini and cauldron-sized shareable cocktails.
There are also Char-Boo-terie boards and non-alcoholic drinks if you’re sitting this round out.
The calendar changes throughout the month: Wednesdays bring Tarot & Tini Night with complimentary mini readings, Thursdays and Saturdays feature the ticketed Nocturna Burlesque and Nocturna Revue, and Fridays bring live music.
Witchcraft workshops and pumpkin paint-and-sip nights are also scheduled throughout October.
Reservations are strongly encouraged because walk-in seating is extremely limited.

Unique Halloween Experiences & Day Trip
Texas Renaissance Festival: All Hallows Eve Weekend
Halloween and the Renaissance Fair were bound to meet eventually, and All Hallows Eve Weekend at the Texas Renaissance Festival makes a pretty convincing case for the combination.
The festival dates back to 1974, when it opened on a former strip-mining site in Todd Mission. Today, its nearly 60 acres welcome more than half a million visitors a year, making it the country’s largest Renaissance festival by attendance.
During the October 31 and November 1 weekend, you’ll have 25 stages, more than 400 artisan shops, eight themed villages, jousting, fire performers, acrobats, belly dancers, fortune tellers and a cast of thousands in period costume to explore.
Then Halloween gets layered on top: the Transylvanian court joins the kingdom, pumpkins and spooky decorations appear throughout the grounds, and there’s a costume contest alongside the Kettle Corn Eating Contest at 4 p.m.
Kids can also go trick-or-treating around the festival.
It’s one of the few places where showing up as a vampire or witch won’t make you the most unusual person in the crowd.
Tickets are date-specific and non-refundable, so buy early. Planning to camp onsite? Book that even earlier, as Halloween weekend sells out.
When: October 31 – November 1, 2026 | 9:00 am – 8:00 pm
Where: 21778 FM 1774, Todd Mission, TX 77363
How Much: Ticket prices vary by weekend, starting from $25 – $40 per adult; Discounts available online in advance
Houston Scream Fest
If you want your haunted-house night to last as long as you’re willing to keep going, Houston Scream Fest has one major advantage: one ticket gives you unlimited re-entry to all five haunted houses.
You can make your way through the Sanitarium, Castle of Doom, Casa de la Llorona, The Graveyard and Texas Chainsaw Maze, then turn around and do them again.
Each attraction has its own flavor of horror. The Sanitarium drops you into an asylum overrun by patients, while Castle of Doom uses a vortex to disorient you before sending you into medieval horrors.
Casa de la Llorona draws from the Mexican folklore of the weeping woman searching for her children, and the Texas Chainsaw Maze saves a chainsaw-wielding actor for the exit.
The event also includes adult beverages and live metal and rock concerts every night at its full concert venue, the only one of its kind at a haunted event in Texas.
You can also add zombie paintball, carnival midway games, and horror film screenings to the night.
When: October 2 – November 7, 2026 | Fridays and Saturdays: 8 pm – 12:30 am | Other nights: 8 pm – 10:30 pm
Where: 1500 Elton St, Houston, TX 77034
How Much: $40

Want something extra to do while you’re there? Add the Hunted Hues scavenger hunt and search the galleries for ghoulish grooves as you make your way through the rooms.

Know Before You Go: Houston Halloween Guide
Planning your Houston Halloween 2026 outings? Keep in mind that the best events aren’t all clustered inside the Inner Loop.
You’ll find plenty happening at Hermann Park, Discovery Green, and the Museum District, but some of the bigger Halloween outings are farther out in places like Katy, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Webster, and Brookshire.
Depending on where you’re headed, expect a 20- to 45-minute drive from Downtown Houston via I-10, I-45, or US-59.
- Beat the traffic: If you’re heading to a popular rural venue like Dewberry Farm in Brookshire or the Texas Renaissance Festival in Todd Mission, don’t wait until midday. Weekend traffic tends to build between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., so getting there early can save you a long crawl into the parking lot.
- Dress for Houston: October weather can still mean humidity and warm afternoons, but cool fronts and breezy evenings can show up, too. Comfortable shoes are a must for events with trails or large grounds, and layers make it easier to handle the temperature swings without sacrificing your costume.
Common Questions about Houston Halloween 2026
What are the best neighborhoods for trick-or-treating in Houston?
Houston Heights, Bellaire, West University Place, and River Oaks are popular choices for Halloween night, with plenty of decorated homes and walkable streets. If you’re willing to head outside the city, The Woodlands and Cinco Ranch in Katy also have busy Halloween celebrations and plenty of trick-or-treating action.
What can adults do for fun on Halloween in Houston?
There’s much more to Halloween for adults than haunted houses. You can hit the Trick or Drink Houston Halloween Bar Crawl in Midtown, step into the witchy world of The Cursed Cauldron, take a nighttime hike with drinks at the Houston Arboretum’s Sip & Stroll, or go all-in on scares at Houston Scream Fest.
Are there free trick-or-treat events in Houston?
Yes. You can take the kids to Scream on the Green at Discovery Green, wander the Trick or Treat Trail at Traders Village, collect candy around CITYCENTRE, or bring your pup to the free Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade at Levy Park. Just check each event’s details before you go, since some attractions or activities within otherwise free events may cost extra.
