Not every child starts summer already knowing they love ballet, and that’s exactly who the Houston Ballet Summer Programs are for. These programs are designed to introduce dance in a way that feels approachable, encouraging, and pressure-free, allowing young kids to explore movement at their own pace.
Led by professional faculty at the Houston Ballet Academy, each program is carefully built to support young dancers aged 2 – 7 at their exact stage of development. Classes combine ballet fundamentals with storytelling, collaboration, and age-appropriate challenges that help kids build discipline, confidence, and focus, without losing the joy of play.

Parent & Me (Ages 2–3)
If your toddler loves music but isn’t quite ready to be on their own yet, Parent & Me is a gentle starting point. You’ll be right there with them as they move, explore, and get comfortable following simple routines.
In this class, it’s less about doing it right and more about helping your child learn how to listen, move with intention, and interact with others. Through the activities here, your kids will also get to explore their muscular strength, coordination, balance, memory, and use of rhythm and musicality.
You can also treat it as bonding time and a chance to see how your child responds in a group setting.
Joy of Motion (Ages 3–4)

At this age, kids have energy to burn, and Joy of Motion gives them a positive place to use it. Classes are designed to help children build coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, and spatial awareness.
This class often becomes a confidence booster rather than focused technical training. The goal is to help the kids discover enjoyment through music and movement while developing both fine and gross motor skills in an age-appropriate way.
Creative Dance (Ages 4–5)
Creative Dance is where imagination really takes center stage. Kids are encouraged to move with purpose, respond to music, and use props and imagery to tell simple stories through movement.
Activities focus on strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression, with an emphasis on musical awareness, rhythm, and purposeful movement.
This class is especially great for children who love pretend play or need an outlet for self-expression.
Pre-Ballet (Ages 5–6)
If your child is starting to enjoy structure but still needs room to explore, Pre-Ballet gives that balance as the transition between Creative Dance and Elementary Ballet. Here, classes introduce the idea of a “real” ballet class, which includes learning how to line up, listen, and recognize basic ballet terms without losing the joy of movement.
While structure becomes more important at this level, the class continues to emphasize creative expression through movement to music.
Elementary Ballet (Ages 6–7)

Elementary Ballet is ideal for kids who are ready for more focus and consistency. Students will begin learning classical ballet movements and vocabulary while developing musicality and coordination.
Classes focus on musical appreciation, including rhythm, quality of movement, and coordinating movement to music.
In addition to developing physical strength, students will also work on memory, patterning, and following specific directions. This will help them build a strong foundation, especially if they want to move into the Pre-Professional Program the following year.
Children’s Workshops (Ages 4–8)
Children’s Workshops are week-long summer programs for children ages 4–8. No prior dance experience is required, and no auditions are necessary.
Each workshop is themed and designed to introduce ballet through movement, creativity, and age-appropriate activities, making them a flexible summer option for families looking for a short-term program.
Registration is now open, and these classes fill quickly, so register today to secure your child’s spot.
