Today’s Juneteenth event Highlights in Houston

The absolute crown jewel of today’s celebrations is the historic Emancipation Park Juneteenth Celebration. This historic site is hosting a massive community festival starting at 10:00 AM, featuring local food trucks, interactive family activities, and live gospel and R&B music. Since this is the oldest park in Texas specifically purchased to celebrate freedom, the energy here is unmatched. If you are planning to attend, rideshare is highly recommended as the surrounding Third Ward streets will be heavily congested and neighborhood parking is extremely limited.

If you are looking for an evening plan, the Miller Outdoor Theatre Juneteenth Blues Concert offers the perfect soulful soundtrack to your night. Grab a spot on the hill or secure covered seating for an unforgettable lineup of Texas blues legends starting at 7:00 PM. It’s a completely free, family-friendly event where you can pack your own picnic baskets and coolers. To get a good spot on the hillside, make sure to arrive at Hermann Park at least an hour early, as parking lots near the theater fill up fast around dinner time.

Another fantastic option is the annual Acres Homes Juneteenth Parade, which kicks off early this morning at 10:00 AM along West Montgomery Road. This vibrant, high-energy neighborhood parade features marching bands, customized trail riders, and local community floats. It’s an interactive, loud, and joyful local tradition that truly embodies the neighborly spirit of Houston. Be sure to bring lawn chairs and find a shaded spot along the route by 9:30 AM to catch the best views before the streets close down.
