Know Before You Go
Most of the big Pride Month events take place within Houston’s Inner Loop, including Downtown, Midtown, and the Montrose district. But celebrations stretch into the suburbs too. Katy Pride hosts its inaugural “Chase the Rainbow” fun run on June 13, and the Sugar Land Space Cowboys hold their annual Pride Night at Constellation Field on June 10.
Getting There
If you’re driving in from the suburbs, most downtown venues sit about 25 to 40 minutes away via the major highways. Plan to arrive early for any downtown event. Street closures around the parade route will limit your options fast.
Your best bets for getting downtown:
- METRORail: Exit at the Theater District Station, about a 3-minute walk to the festival grounds. Park your car in Montrose or the East End and ride in.
- Rideshare: Convenient but expect surge pricing during peak hours. When leaving, walk a few blocks away from the crowds before requesting a ride.
- Driving: You can reserve a garage spot ahead of time through SpotHero. Bonus hack from seasoned attendees: a parking garage along the parade route (like the one at Milam and Lamar) gives you a shaded, elevated view without fighting the sidewalk crowds.
What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind)
No large bags are allowed on the festival grounds at City Hall. Security checks everyone at the gate, so stick with a fanny pack or small drawstring bag.
It’s June in Houston, so sunscreen, a portable fan, and a water bottle are non-negotiables.
Common Questions About Pride Month Events in Houston
Are Houston Pride events safe and family-friendly?
The daytime festival at City Hall includes a dedicated Kids Zone at Tranquility Park with face painting, snow cones, story time, and more. Kids under 12 and seniors 60+ get into the festival for free.
That said, late-night club events and after-parties across the city are geared toward adults (18+ or 21+), so plan your schedule accordingly.
Where should I park for the downtown Houston Pride Parade?
Parking garages are available near City Hall and throughout downtown. You can reserve a spot in advance on SpotHero.
But street closures along the parade route and heavy foot traffic make driving stressful. The better move: take the METRORail (exit at Theater District Station) or book a rideshare and get dropped off at one of the designated zones near Bagby and Lamar.
Do I need tickets for the main festival and parade?
The parade is completely free to watch from the sidewalk. The festival at City Hall does require a ticket. General admission starts at $13.12 and can be purchased on Eventbrite or through pridehouston.org.
VIP packages (which include open bar, main stage access, cooling zones, and grandstand parade viewing) range from about $230 to $345. Tickets to popular nightlife events and brunches sell out, so grab those early.
