Galveston Island Dickens On The Strand

When: The 50th Anniversary of the Dickens on The Strand festival, a signature event by the Galveston Historical Foundation, commences on Friday, December 1, offering free admission to Fezziwig’s Beer Hall from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The celebration continues with ticketed entry on Saturday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, December 3, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets: Entry is complimentary on December 1. For December 2 and 3, tickets are available at varied rates. Advanced purchase tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 7-12, while tickets bought at the gate are $25 for adults and $18 for youth.

GHF members can avail of discounted tickets at $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Attendees in Victorian costumes enjoy a 50% discount on entry.

What: Do you believe in the Polar Express? You’re about to in this magical ride for the season at the Galveston Railroad Museum! 

In this ride, you’ll get to meet many of the characters from the film including the conductor, the hobo, the singing chefs, and the man himself, Santa Claus. Don’t forget to enjoy your cookie and sip your hot chocolate courtesy of the singing chefs. And once you reach the North Pole, don’t forget to grab a souvenir to remind you of the lovely ride.

The Charitable Sisterhood Christmas Spectacular

What: When the baby Jesus figure from the nativity scene goes missing, the sisterhood becomes uneasy knowing that a thief is on the loose. So, they call up honorary sisterhood member and private investigator Janet to catch the culprit and with that, a crazy search starts for baby Jesus. 

Filled with the spirit of the season, this spectacular show also has a dash of comedy and mystery that everybody will surely love.

Dickens on The Strand

What: Brush off your petticoats and bowlers and prepare for the Galveston Historical Foundation’s 50th annual Dickens on The Strand. Held on the first week of December, the annual festival features parades, non-stop entertainment on four stages, the Shopkeeper Skills Village, and roaming characters. This year, the new addition is Tiny Tim’s Play Land. Make sure to enjoy them all!

Afternoon Tea at the Rosenberg Library

What: Dress up in your best dresses with the kids and enjoy a perfectly fine teatime with the members of the Dickens family this weekend at the Rosenberg Library. Costumes are highly encouraged but not required. 

The event is best for kids in kindergarten and up.

Snowflake Snip and Sip

34th East End Holiday Homes Tour

What: If you love home tours or simply love seeing how other homes are decorated for the holiday season, don’t miss out on the 34th East End Holiday Homes Tour. 

Get to tour the interior of four historic homes festively decorated for the holiday season all while listening to a variety of holiday music. You can also stop by the Cottage for a cookie and a sighting of Santa Claus.

Pearls and Poinsettias Brunch at The Bryan Museum

What: Enjoy a delicious brunch featuring two delicious winter wonderland drinks: a cranberry mimosa and an Aperol champagne spritz this weekend at the Bryan Museum.  

Guests will also hear from guest speaker Mike Brennan, an international pearl harvester. Additionally, all women attending the brunch will receive a pair of pearl earrings. There will also be a variety of pearl jewelry available for purchase.

And this holiday season, The Grand will present a new adaptation of this classic filled with lush costumes, stunning sets, song, dance, a heavy dose of humor, and a timeless message. What: Welcome the holidays with the family at Moody Gardens’ Festival of Lights! This tradition will take you on a mile-long trail featuring more than two million lights and lighted scenes coupled with holiday music and a backdrop of Galveston Bay. 

Stops along the trail will lead you to Start the Dancing Tree of Light, hot chocolate, fireside S’mores, concession areas, mistletoes, and other festive foods.

There will also be a giant ice slide that will take you from the canopy to the forest floor, past ancient ruins, and along river edges. You can also enjoy the Shivers Ice Bar, a cool bar made completely out of ice that features festive holiday spirits.

What: Step back in time and chat with a cowboy from 1870 cooking at his chuckwagon and explore the Galveston Orphans’ Home from the last century at Holiday Delights 2023. 

In addition to that, the event will also feature some of the most popular events from previous years including a petting zoo, an elf hunt, pictures and letters to Santa, food trucks, storybook readings, crafts, and music.
