I think there’s something special about watching a child’s face light up at the sight of a massive truck, sirens flashing, or a shiny digger at work. That sense of wonder and excitement is what makes the Touch a Truck event at Texas City a must-see on the city’s family calendar.
Designed for curious kids and the young at heart, this annual event turns an ordinary day into a hands-on adventure filled with discovery, laughter, and community spirit. Learn more about what surprises the event holds in our guide below.

Get ready for a day where curiosity meets horsepower! Touch a Truck is a FREE event where kids can climb aboard, explore, and discover their favorite big vehicles up close, from police cars and fire trucks to construction rigs and more. 100 different vehicles are expected to be on display, so each kid will surely find a ride to love and explore.
Drivers and operators will also be on-site to guide families like mine through each vehicle, share what it’s like to work behind the wheel, and even help with exciting demonstrations.
To ensure every child enjoys the experience, the event will include a silent hour from 9–10 a.m., where no honking of any horns will be allowed, ensuring even kids with sensory sensitivities can fully enjoy the event.

About Texas City Touch a Truck

What started in 2012 as a small community gathering has grown into one of Texas City’s most beloved family events. Over the years, Texas City Touch a Truck has evolved into a highly anticipated interactive festival, drawing families eager to experience the excitement of trucks, sirens, and hands-on discovery.
The event was created to spark curiosity and learning among children by giving them the chance to get up close with community service vehicles, from fire trucks and emergency vehicles to construction equipment. It creates a meaningful opportunity for the little ones lie yours and mine to learn how these machines and the people who operate them help keep the community running every day.
