Can’t-Miss Highlights
- Texas City Dike
The Texas City Dike stretches 5.3 miles into Galveston Bay and holds the title of the longest man-made fishing pier in the world. Visitors can fish, bike, hike, and take in waterfront views at no cost on weekdays. Weekend parking fees apply for non-residents during summer, but several June events on the list fall during free-access windows. - Take-Home Crafts and Skills
Several programs on the list go beyond the event itself. Kids and teens leave with something in hand such as painted canvases, terrariums, henna designs, and more, all created during free workshops hosted at Moore Memorial Public Library. - A Month That Builds Toward Something
June’s lineup doesn’t just fill a calendar. It builds toward Juneteenth on June 20 and sets the stage for Independence Day celebrations, making it one of the most event-packed months Texas City offers all year.
Plan Your Visit
Parking
Most venues offer free on-site parking. This includes:
- Moore Memorial Public Library
- 6th Street Community Plaza
- Nessler Park
- Bay Street Park
- Carver Park
If you’re heading to the Texas City Dike, weekday parking is free. Weekend parking costs $10 per vehicle during summer months. Walkers and cyclists always enter the Dike at no charge.
Getting Here
Texas City sits about 45 minutes south of downtown Houston via I-45. From Galveston, it’s a short 20-minute drive north. The city is easy to navigate by car, and most June events are clustered around a few key areas: the 6th Street corridor, Nessler Park, and Bay Street Park.
Make It a Day Trip
Pair the free events with a stop at the Texas City Museum on 6th Street North. The museum covers the 1947 Texas City Disaster, one of the deadliest industrial accidents in U.S. history, and features a large model railroad display by the Galveston County Model Railroad Club.
Admission is low-cost and worth the hour. After that, the Texas City Dike is just minutes away and makes for a great afternoon stretch.
What to Bring
June in Texas City means heat and humidity. Bring sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and a portable fan or handheld mister for outdoor events.
For Movie in the Park and the outdoor concerts, pack a blanket or folding chairs and bug spray. Library programs are indoors and air-conditioned, so those are a welcome midday break.
Dining
Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen is a local go-to for a full sit-down meal. For something quicker between events, the 6th Street area has casual spots for coffee and bites.
If you’re spending time near the Dike, several bait camps nearby also sell snacks and drinks. Lagoonfest Texas has food and drinks on-site if you plan to spend time at the lagoon.
Good to Know
City facilities, including City Hall and the library, will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. Plan library visits and pickups around that closure.
