Ultimate Guide to Halloween Day Houston 2026: Store Trick-or-Treating & Daytime Events

Monster Mayhem — Children’s Museum Houston

Monster-making, candy hunts, face painting, and a dance party with DJ Beetlejuice? Children’s Museum Houston is giving the kids a full Halloween itinerary on October 31, and the fun runs from 9 AM to 8 PM.

Start with the Design Studio, where they can make their own stuffed monsters (only 12 kids can participate at a time, so get there early). Catch Frankenstein towering over the crowd on stilts in the morning, then swing by for face painting between 4 and 8 PM.

Five candy stations are spread throughout the museum, so there’s no need to squeeze all the trick-or-treating into one short window.

The science activities deserve a spot on your schedule, too. At Thermoplastic Monsters, kids transform plastic beads into Halloween creatures while learning about reversible physical changes. It’s science class with a much cuter end product.

Monster Storytime and Mask Making runs at 11 AM and 1 PM, and DJ Beetlejuice keeps the party going during the final four hours. Bring the kids early, because with nearly the entire day packed with activities, you’ll have plenty to get through before heading home.

Zoo Boo — Houston Zoo

Pumpkin lanterns, spooky trails, and tigers investigating their Halloween treats make the Houston Zoo a fun place to spend Halloween morning.

October 31 is the final day of Zoo Boo, so it’s your last chance to catch seasonal attractions like the Pumpkin Lantern Tunnel between the lion and tiger habitats, the Tangled Web Trail, the Great Pumpkin Portrait, and Peek-a-Boo Pumpkins scattered around the grounds.

Just don’t plan your visit around the nighttime attractions. Spooky Forest, Ghost Town, and the glowing pumpkins after dark wrap up on October 30, so Halloween Day itself means regular zoo hours, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Make it your morning adventure, snap a few seasonal photos, and you’ll still have the afternoon to relax before the neighborhood trick-or-treating begins.

When: September 25 – October 31, 2026 | Weekends: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: 6200 Hermann Park Dr, Houston, TX 77030
How Much: Fall fun pass starts at $33.90

Houston Symphony: Haunted Halloween

Imagine walking into Jones Hall on Halloween morning to find the entire Houston Symphony dressed in costume and playing Halloween-themed music. That’s the scene on October 31, when the orchestra takes over the concert hall for two special performances at 10 AM and 11:30 AM.

Kids are encouraged to wear their own costumes, and Jack-O-Lanterns are handed out for in-hall trick-or-treating during the show.

It’s a chance to give the kids a taste of a live orchestra without making the morning feel like a formal concert. They’ll get Halloween music, a room full of costumed performers, and treats along the way.

Pick the show that works for your family, then head out with the rest of Halloween Day still ahead of you.

When: October 31, 2026 | 10:00 am and 11:30 am
Where: 615 Louisiana St, Houston, TX 77002
How Much: Fall fun pass starts at $42

Halloween Foam Party — POST Houston Skylawn

Halloween costumes and a rooftop full of purple and orange foam? POST Houston is making room for a messier kind of Halloween fun on Skylawn. On October 31, the foam machines run from 11 AM to 2 PM, with family-friendly music and a costume contest to keep things lively.

Expect the kids to get more than a few photos out of this one. They’ll be able to play in the foam, show off their costumes, and enjoy a different view of downtown while the music plays.

Wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet, and check any event-specific guidance before you leave home.

When: October 31, 2026 | 11:00 am and 2:00 pm
Where: 401 Franklin St, Houston, TX 77201

BARC-O-WEEN

At BARC-O-WEEN, the cutest Halloween guests might have four legs and be looking for a home.

Houston’s city animal shelter hosts this free October 31 event from 10 AM to 5 PM near Northside, with one especially good reason to stop by: adoption fees are waived for the day, thanks to the Houston BARC Foundation.

The first 75 adopters also receive swag, so anyone already thinking about adopting a pet has an extra reason to arrive early.

Even if you’re not ready to bring home a new furry family member, there’s plenty to do. Expect trunk-or-treating, Halloween treats for kids and pets, local vendors, and community organizations.

Costumes are encouraged for humans and animals alike, with treats for both.

Browse the booths, meet the shelter pets, and keep your camera handy for the costumed pups. Just be warned: a Halloween outing with adorable adoptable animals could turn into a much bigger family conversation on the drive home.

A 30-foot slide, lake boats, a carousel, and a giant pumpkin-themed bounce attraction? Discovery Green’s Houston Pumpkin Festival gives you plenty of reasons to get outside before Halloween evening begins.

The festival runs from September 19 through November 8, so all its fall attractions remain available on October 31.

Let the kids burn off some energy at the Jumpkin’ Pumpkin, take a ride on the carousel, or head out on the lake boats. You’ll also find plenty of pumpkin and gourd displays throughout the downtown park for your fall photos.

Between presentations, follow the candy stations around the center for nut-free treats, explore the Planetarium Dome, or join pop-up science labs focused on Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Halloween-themed food bites are also available to purchase in the Food Lab.

All these activities are included with regular general admission. And costumes are encouraged, so dress up before wandering among the rockets and space suits.

Halloween meets medieval village at the Texas Renaissance Festival’s All Hallows Eve weekend, happening October 31 and November 1.

Costumes are practically part of the dress code here, so pull out your witch’s cloak, dress like a rogue, or go all in with a Renaissance-inspired look.

Across the festival grounds, you’ll find 500 costumed performers, 25 stages, jousting, and more than 400 shops. The Halloween weekend adds costume contests for kids and adults with prizes, trick-or-treating throughout the village for children, and a kettle corn-eating contest.

The festival opens at 9 AM in Todd Mission, about an hour north of Houston, so leave time for the drive and arrive early enough to explore.

Staying into Saturday evening? TRF After Dark offers an adults-only costume gala with dancing and food. And here’s the best part for anyone who takes costumes seriously: your Halloween outfit can double as your Renaissance faire look. One costume, two occasions, plenty of opportunities for dramatic entrances.

Best Houston Neighborhood Candy Maps & Trick-or-Treat Hotspots

The Heights

Forget driving between houses and searching for somewhere to park. In The Heights, you can park once, grab the kids, and spend Halloween wandering streets lined with historic bungalows, carved pumpkins, and seriously committed decorators.

Heights Boulevard, Harvard Street, and Euclid are popular spots for a neighborhood trick-or-treating run, with Craftsman-style homes and front porches that give the whole evening that classic Halloween feel.

Some homes keep things simple with glowing pumpkins and spooky porch displays, while others transform their front yards into full Halloween scenes. The neighborhood’s historic architecture makes even the smaller decorations feel charming, especially once the porch lights and jack-o’-lanterns start glowing.

Head out after dark to see the displays at their best, wear comfortable shoes, and leave room in your schedule for the occasional detour. One more decorated house can easily turn into five.

In Bellaire, one house might hand out candy while the next has you stopping to admire an entire Halloween light show. This neighborhood has earned a local following for its decorated homes, quiet tree-lined streets, and cul-de-sacs that make walking around with the kids a little less stressful.

Some residents go all out every October, and certain addresses have become regular stops on local trick-or-treating routes.

Start with the 5600 block of Whitehaven, known for its changing light display, then look for the Taylor family home on Newcastle between Holly and Pine, another local Halloween favorite featured in Buzz Magazine’s coverage of Bellaire’s decorations.

Plan to be out during the early evening, and keep an eye on little ones around driveways and crossing points as the neighborhood fills up.

Bring your camera and give yourself time to appreciate the displays instead of rushing from door to door. The homes are more spread out here, so you’ll want a car to get between sections of the neighborhood before parking and exploring on foot.

Plan your visit for the evening, when the lighting brings the decorations into focus.

Expect a suburban trick-or-treating setup where you can walk between houses, admire the decorations, and keep the candy collecting moving without constantly hopping back into the car.

Cochran’s Crossing also hosts a Fall Festival earlier in October, giving you a taste of the community activity that helps make the neighborhood feel festive throughout the season.

If you’re coming from north of Houston, you can spend Halloween closer to home while still enjoying a full evening of decorated houses and trick-or-treating.

Halloween Hours & Nighttime Halloween Day Houston Celebrations

13th Floor Haunted House

Jason Voorhees takes the lead at 13th Floor Houston with an officially licensed experience inspired by the Friday the 13th franchise.

In Jason Universe: Survive the Night, Jason isn’t simply lurking in a corner, waiting for you to walk past. He’s always one step ahead. You round a corner, catch sight of that battered hockey mask in the darkness, and suddenly he’s much closer than you’d like.

The second haunt, Containment: Sector 9, takes a turn toward sci-fi horror. Beneath a barn, an alien pathogen has escaped a lab, mutated the scientists and test subjects, and continued evolving in the dark.

The big 2026 addition is Jason Universe: Director’s Cut, a limited VIP experience that lets your group influence how Jason attacks the next set of victims.

A camp counselor leads you into a rustic cabin, where four buttons — Panic, Slash, Strike, and Stalk — put you in charge of the action. The unsuspecting victims have no idea who’s calling the shots. Your group also gets a limited-edition collectible patch to take home.

Director’s Cut availability is capped each night, so add it when booking your main tickets if you want to take part. Halloween night is a popular time to visit, making advance booking a smart move.

When: September 12 – November 13, 2026 | Weekends and select weekdays: 7 pm – 10 pm
Where: 7075 Farm to Market 1960 Rd W Ste 20, Houston, TX 77069

Houston Scream Fest

You can enjoy Houston Scream Fest without spending a cent on admission to the park. The free-entry option gives you access to the carnival midway and live music, with a different band scheduled each night. Free drinks, including alcoholic beverages, are also part of the offering described for the event.

Want the scares, too? A $40 haunted-house ticket adds four walk-through attractions to your night.

Inside Sanitarium, the asylum’s inmates have taken over. Castle of Doom sends you through a medieval maze with a vortex that seems determined to pull you back in. At Casa De La Llorona, the weeping woman by the lake wants to know if you’re her baby. Then there’s The Graveyard, rounding out the lineup.

Your haunted-house ticket also includes H-Town Paintball, a life-sized recreation of Call of Duty‘s Nuketown map where you aim live zombie actors. Paint costs extra, so budget for that if you’re keen to play.

Friday and Saturday ticket booths close at 11 PM, so arrive early if you want time to tackle several attractions instead of rushing through the lineup.

When: October 2 – November 7, 2026 | Fridays and Saturdays: 8 pm – 12:30 am | Other nights: 8 pm – 10:30 pm
Where: 1500 Elton St, Houston, TX 77034

Phobia Haunted Houses

Phobia gives you plenty of ways to spend a night getting scared.

At its Beltway 8 location, you can choose combinations of three, four, or five haunted houses, with packages starting at $40. Each attraction has its own brand of horror, so you can build a lineup around whatever gets under your skin.

Dawn of the Machine imagines a world where machinery has replaced humanity. In Mind Control, patients have taken over a mental hospital, while Genetic Nightmare explores the grotesque results of misguided science.

Clown Mania brings BoomBoom and a collection of trippy, offbeat clowns into the mix, and Darke Institute explores the twisted mind of Dr. Phylo Darke.

For a longer, connected scare, The Exile is a separate $30 experience linking three attractions into one continuous run: Darke World, Contagion, and Savage Ground. The journey moves through a packing plant, a viral chemical facility, and open-air streets overrun with lurkers.

Over at Kemah Boardwalk, Phobia offers two additional houses, Doom and Darke Labs, for $30. If you’re planning to visit Boo on the Boardwalk during the day, you could make a full outing of it by staying for the haunted houses in the evening.

At Houston Terror Dome, the wait is part of the show.

On Friday and Saturday nights, DJ Dave and the Zombie Dancers entertain the crowd with a mix of Top 40, EDM, and line-dance songs. You can get into the Halloween spirit before you’ve even reached the entrance.

Inside, the haunted house takes you through clowns, zombies, a walk-through vortex, a butcher’s shop, a swamp, and multiple 3D rooms. Glasses are provided for the 3D sections.

Once you’ve made it through, your ticket also gets you into the Nightmare Alley Selfie Saloon, where you can pose among the spooky props. Beer and wine are available to guests 21 and older, alongside non-alcoholic options.

Want to keep the night going? Add-ons include Axe Mania, where you throw axes at a UV-lit target, and Sicko and Freako’s Paintball Massacre, a Halloween-themed shooting game featuring animatronics under black lights.

Three 10-minute escape rooms also offer a different challenge: The Cabin, Zombie Infection, and Black Beard’s Curse. Each has its own puzzle and requires at least two players.

There’s also Cranium Catch, where you try to toss a brain into an animatronic zombie’s open head to win prizes. It’s a fun way to fill the downtime while your friends recover from the haunted house or work up the nerve to go in.

Haunted Trails — Old Town Spring

Haunted Trails makes the most of its outdoor setting in Old Town Spring, a historic railroad hub north of Houston. The experience unfolds in two stages: first, a hayride through dark harvest fields; then, a walking trail through the woods and village.

The story begins with a plague spreading through the town. The infected lie in graves ahead; the living are outnumbered by the walking dead, and the hay wagon eventually brings you to a set of old wooden gates.

From there, you leave the wagon behind and continue on foot, moving through the village as bloodthirsty locals and lurking creatures emerge from the darkness.

Old Town Spring’s history adds atmosphere to the experience. The town has been described as one of the most haunted Old West towns in the United States, and the combination of wooded trails, old gates, and open fields feels different from a haunted house built inside a warehouse.

Because the attraction is entirely outdoors, check the forecast before you leave.

When: September 26 – November 1, 2026 | Fridays and Saturdays: 7:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Where: 26302 Preston Ave, Spring, TX 77373

The costume contest awards prizes to first, second, and third place, with more than $1,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. The venue is also teasing a few spooky surprises.

Know Before You Go: Halloween Day in Houston

Halloween events aren’t limited to central Houston. The Heights, Montrose, and Museum District offer options closer to the city, while families in Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland, and The Woodlands can look for neighborhood trick-or-treating, shopping-center events, and other local activities.

Travel times vary depending on where you’re starting and how busy the roads are, so check the event location before heading out.

If you’re taking the kids trick-or-treating after dark, bring a flashlight, choose visible costumes or add reflective details, and use sidewalks and marked crossings whenever possible. Check event schedules in advance, too, especially if you’re planning to visit more than one stop.

Common Questions About Halloween Day in Houston

What time does trick-or-treating start on Halloween in Houston?

Store and mall trick-or-treating events may begin in the late afternoon, often around 4 or 5 PM, while residential trick-or-treating commonly picks up around dusk. Exact times vary by venue and neighborhood, so check local event announcements before making plans.

Are store trick-or-treat events in Houston free?

Many stores and shopping centers offer free Halloween activities, but admission rules and what’s included can vary. Check the event details for any registration requirements, age restrictions, or additional costs before you go.

What are the best neighborhoods for kids to get candy in Houston?

The Houston Heights, River Oaks, and Bellaire are popular areas to consider, along with Panther Creek in The Woodlands and First Colony in Sugar Land. Candy availability and participation can vary from street to street, so ask residents or check community event listings for current recommendations. For younger kids, a neighborhood event with designated activities may be easier to navigate than a long residential route.
