The day begins at Carver Park Pond, where the city is hosting its annual Kid Fish. For families looking to spend some time outdoors, this is a local favorite. The pond will be stocked with hundreds of rainbow trout, providing a great opportunity for children to try their hand at fishing.
This event is completely free and requires no registration. While you are encouraged to bring your own rods and reels, the city provides a limited amount of equipment for those who need it. It is an excellent way to start the morning in a relaxed, community setting.

Between the morning fishing and the evening music, you can explore the city through the 409 Protocol. This city-wide scavenger hunt turns local history into a live-action game. Named after the regional area code, the hunt leads you through landmarks and hidden spots from the historic 6th Street district to the sights along the bay.
The stakes are high, with $1,000 in total cash prizes. The top individual or team takes home $500, with second and third place earning $300 and $200, respectively. One lucky “agent” will also win a high-tech pair of Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer sunglasses. To join the mission, pick up your field packet at City Hall or the Moore Memorial Public Library.
Where to Eat and Shop During the Hunt
While you are tracking down clues, you will find yourself in the heart of Texas City’s local culture. If the team gets hungry, 6th Street offers several local favorites. For a classic Texas meal, Grand Prize Barbecue is a staple in the area, or you can head to Terraza Mexican Bar and Grill for Tex-Mex and fresh margaritas.
For those who want to mix a little retail therapy into their mission, the 6th Street corridor is home to several eclectic local retailers and antique shops like Urban Gypsies. If you are looking for bigger brands, the Tanger Outlets Houston are located right in Texas City on the Gulf Freeway, featuring over 90 stores for a quick afternoon shopping spree.

- Texas City Museum: Located on 6th Street, this museum offers a fascinating look at the city’s history, including an impressive model train exhibit that children usually love.
Evening: Live Jazz with Kyle Turner

As the day winds down, head to the 6th Street Community Plaza for a performance by renowned saxophonist Kyle Turner. Turner is a world-class musician who has toured with legends like Luther Vandross. His soulful sound is the perfect backdrop for a Saturday evening.
The Plaza is a newer highlight for the city, featuring a performance stage and a food truck park. It is also very pet-friendly, with dedicated dog parks on-site, so there is no need to leave your four-legged friends at home.
