The Lake House at Discovery Green

This place looks expensive but it’s actually a counter service style restaurant. The food is from the same owners as Cafe Annie so you know it’s good. Plus, it’s affordable and has an awesome outdoor area, which is always a bonus when looking for family-friendly restaurants.

Niko Niko’s at Market Square Park

Beautiful scenery, delicious Greek food, and great options for kids. When the weather is nice, this is a great spot for some outdoor dining with the whole family.

The Boot

This Heights-area restaurant has a huge outdoor patio and a playground. They offer Cajun-style food with plenty of options for all eaters.

Cedar Creek Cafe

This laid-back restaurant has a huge patio with plenty of seating and a fire pit. If you go during the day, it’s a child-friendly restaurant, but at night, the vibe becomes much more adult-oriented as it does have a bar.


This neighborhood-style Pizza restaurant has awesome food and a beautiful outdoor seating area. The kids will also love the breakfast and the outdoor area with games and a fountain.

Hobbit Cafe

This quirky eatery offers delicious and healthy food, vegan and vegetarian options, and Hobbit- styled decor.

Jenni’s Noodle House 

This restaurant has multiple locations but their Heights shop is the best. They have art everywhere, playful decor, amazing food, and an outdoor seating area.

Last Concert Cafe

This restaurant offers live music on stage, delicious Mexican food (and kid-friendly options w/ fruit on the side), and a lively atmosphere.

Mia’s Table

This casual eatery offers down-home food both you and the kids will love, offering everything from delicious chicken tenders to burgers to tacos and salads. It’s one of our favorite kid-friendly restaurants in Houston. On nice days, be sure to sit on the patio.

Natachees Supper N’ Punch

This supper club has great food and tables stocked with coloring books and trivia cards. Let the kids try their famous Shirley Temples while you try their punch!

Punk’s Simple Southern Food

The name says it all- their food is great, the decor is great, and they have a play area!

The Rice Box

This is some of the best Chinese take out in Houston. Bring the kids for bar-style seating, a fun seating area, and the chance to eat out of an actual box!


Since opening in fall 2019, Prelee’s has quickly become one of the most popular family-friendly restaurants in the Heights. With a wide menu of delicious Southern foods with options for everyone and a huge patio with hammocks, swings, ping pong tables, cornhole, a mini toddler playground, and more, this is a great place for families to spend an afternoon.


Outer Loop

Beck’s Prime on Westheimer

This location has an awesome outdoor seating area but if you’re just there for the great food, all of their locations have it.

BellaGreen at City Centre

This cafeteria-style restaurant is loud enough that kids won’t bother anyone. You can also sit on the patio for people-watching and room for the kids to run around.

The Bistro at the American Girl Doll Store

This small eatery is inside an American Girl Doll Store- what more could little girls ask for? They also offer birthday parties and other packages. There’s room for the girls and their dolls. It’s located at Memorial City Mall.

The Del 

This cute eatery in Uptown is inside one of Houston’s most family-friendly restaurant. They have fresh, foodie cuisine but without all the pretense.

Karbach Brewery

One of Houston’s favorite breweries offers tours and has a great little restaurant. The kids will love the patio tables and personal pizzas.

El Patio

This Mexican restaurant has a bustling bar, a great patio, plus mariachis and a balloon artist.

Little Matt’s

This isn’t just your standard kid-friendly Houston restaurant — it’s all about kids! They have an arcade, iPad station, candy station, photo booth, and complimentary booze for the grown-ups.

Carl’s BBQ (Cypress)

This hidden gem in Cypress is a long- standing, family run business. Their food is delicious and their spacious dining room has historical, Texan- themed artifacts for the kids to explore.

Drix Wine Lounge (Katy)

This hot spot in Katy can get pretty busy but it’s worth the wait. They have great wine, great food, and great atmosphere. Plus, the kids have a whole playroom to themselves- with a door (so it doesn’t get too loud!)

Frey’s Backyard Cafe (Tomball)

This counter service restaurant is in a garage- styled building and they have a kid-friendly backyard.

Hotspot Cajun Seafood House (Cypress)

This Viet- Cajun eatery will wow the kids with their couch- seating and dozens of televisions. They serve hurricanes and other adult beverages, plus awesome crawfish, catfish, fried rice, hush puppies, and more.

La Hacienda (Cypress)

All of the La Hacienda restaurants have great food but the one in Cypress has a bonus: a sprawling outdoor area with a huge playground. You do not want to miss this place!

Live Oak Grill (Sugar Land)

This Sugar Land favorite has delicious food in a laid-back environment. With two patios, there’s plenty of space for families to stretch out and have a tasty meal together.

Mia’s Table (Baybrook, Katy)

This casual eatery offers down-home food both you and the kids will love, offering everything from delicious chicken tenders to burgers to tacos and salads. It’s one of our favorite kid-friendly restaurants in Houston and they now have a location near Baybrook Mall and one in Katy. On nice days, be sure to sit on the patio.

Monument Inn (La Porte)

Go see the San Jacinto Monument then watch the ships passing through the channel as you dine.

No Label Brewery (Katy)

This brewery in Katy has it all- great brews, friendly staff, tons of room for the kids to run around and even a playground. You’ll also love their food trucks and live music in the dining hall.

Penas Donut Heaven (Pearland)

The name says it all- the best, fanciest donuts you’ve ever tried, plus donut burgers, breakfast, and more at this spot in Pearland.

Red River BBQ (League City, Katy)

This BBQ restaurant is one of the best in town and it’s definitely child-friendly. They have a huge, wrap-around porch and a sandbox.

Rosehill Beer Garden (Cypress)

This food truck park in Cypress with a covered seating area has plenty of options for everyone. There is a bar, a playground, restrooms and handwashing stations, awesome seating options, and more.

Skip’s (Cypress)

This farm- style restaurant in Cypress is fun for the whole family. They have checkerboard tables for checkers and chess, plenty of room to run around, patio seating, arcade games, pool, and more.

Texas Borders Bar & Grill 1093 (Richmond)

With a menu that includes everything from burgers to Tex Mex, there’s something for even the pickiest eaater in your family. Tuesday Family Nights are especially great with $21 fajitas for 2 and $1.99 kids meals (with adult purchase). There’s also an outdoor enclosed playground for the kids to burn off some energy

Bernie’s Burger Bus

This school-themed restaurant is in Bellaire, the Heights, and Katy. They have great food and the kids will get a kick out of the bus.

Christian’s Tailgate

With three locations in Houston, including one in Katy, this burger joint is here to serve. They have over-sized burgers, beer, TVs, and karaoke.


This Mexican restaurant has amazing food (try the Marisco bowl!) and a playground for kids. You’ll also love the patio seating and waterfalls. Don’t miss the free ice cream!

James Coney Island

Luna’s Pizzeria

MOD Pizza
