2. Visit Discovery Green

Discovery Green is Houston’s premier park located in the downtown district. It’s centrally located right across from the George R. Brown Convention Center. A lot of these events have moved online for now, and you can catch them on the park’s dedicated Facebook page.

3. Spend the Day at Buffalo Bayou Park

There are multiple parks that line Houston’s central waterway, and Bayou Park, Spotts Park, and Buffalo Bayou Park all fall in line to offer miles of biking and hiking trails. Once you get to the park, you can take a stroll on the scenic trails, or you can visit the Lost Lake Visitor Center, volleyball courts, or the Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area. If you’re on Houston’s North Side or you don’t mind a drive, the Mercer Botanical Gardens is well worth the trip. They offer fun activities for groups of adults with free gardens on one side of the park and miles of scenic hiking trails on the other. Each month, the park offers a host of programs you can join. You can participate in a Yoga and Beyond class, Bike Skills Rodeo, Story Time, Music in the Gardens, Restorative Hikes, and much more. There are also garden tours for all ages.

5. Spend the Day at Hermann Park

Hermann Park sits right across from the Houston Zoo, and it features the Miller Outdoor Theatre which puts on several free performances featuring dance, music, and plays. There is also a gorgeous Japanese Garden that is free to enter and open to the public. The park also features the Museum of Fine Arts Sculpture Garden, and you can snap a picture with Houston’s Bean sculpture.

There are around 300,000 bats at this location, and they spiral out of the bridge each evening right around sunset. It’s a quick and fun summer outdoor activity for adults to take in. The first and third Fridays of the month feature Bat Chats, where you can learn more about these little guys before they emerge and give you a free show.
