The Dickens on the Strand experience is a full sensory immersion designed to delight visitors of all ages. Expect to see and hear:

  • Costumed Revelers: The main attraction is the vibrant crowd. Thousands of attendees, many in full period costume (from elegant ladies and gents to humble chimney sweeps and paupers), fill the streets, making you feel like an extra in a Charles Dickens novel. Dressing up is encouraged, and it even earns you half-price admission at the gate on Saturday and Sunday!

  • Non-Stop Entertainment: The air is alive with sound from multiple stages featuring non-stop entertainment. Expect to encounter strolling carolers, roving musicians, bagpipers, jugglers, and a host of specialty acts. Don’t miss the daily parades that wind through the district.

  • The Marketplace: Costumed vendors line the street in stalls and rolling carts, offering a unique holiday marketplace. Here, you can shop for Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, holiday décor, and a wide variety of holiday food and drink. Keep an eye out for the visitor-favorite Scotch Eggs!

The festival is packed with unique Dickensian activities:

  • The Whimsical Whisker Revue: A crowd-favorite contest celebrating the finest—and most flamboyant—facial hair for the bearded and the dandy.

  • Dickens Victorian Bed Races: A spectacle of costumed teams racing elaborately decorated beds down the street.

  • Family Fun: Children can head to Tiny Tim’s Play Land, which features kid-specific programming, an interactive scavenger hunt, and guaranteed snow conditions (while they last!) for a truly festive experience.

  • Special Ticketed Events: Throughout the weekend, you can elevate your experience with separately ticketed events like a Holiday Handbell Concert at the 1859 St. Joseph’s Church, Miss Havisham’s Afternoon Tea, or the famous Mrs. Tickit’s English Breakfast at Ashton Villa.
