Top Neighborhoods to Trick or Treat on Halloween Night in Houston

The Heights (Woodland Heights & Heights Blvd)

Take the kids down Heights Boulevard on Halloween, and you’ll quickly see why this stretch is a Houston favorite.

The historic homes go well beyond a pumpkin on the porch, with elaborate yard displays that have little trick-or-treaters stopping mid-walk to point out their favorites. Many homes light up around 6 PM and stay festive until roughly 8:30 or 9 PM, so there’s time to enjoy the displays without rushing through every block.

Parking right in the middle of the action can be a headache, though, so leave the car a few blocks away and make the rest of the trip on foot.

And if Heights Boulevard gets a little too crowded for your liking, slip into nearby Woodland Heights. Streets like Byrne, Allston, and Detering have the same charming craftsman homes and Halloween spirit, with a quieter pace that can make candy collecting with little ones much easier.

Bellaire

Ask around about trick-or-treating in Houston, and Bellaire’s reputation for generous candy stops is likely to come up. Many families make the trip, specifically hoping to fill their kids’ goodie bags with full-sized candy bars.

Bellaire is also worth considering when you want a little more breathing room. The wide streets and family-friendly residential setting make it easier to keep younger kids close, push a stroller, and take breaks when little legs get tired.

Bring an extra candy bag, pick a few streets to explore, and let the kids enjoy the fun of never quite knowing what treat is coming next.

Cinco Ranch (Katy)

Trick or treat Houston - Cinco Ranch (Katy)

Image credit: Cinco Ranch Alzheimer’s Special Care Center (Katy, TX)

Katy families don’t have to head into central Houston for a Halloween night of candy runs and impressive decorations. Cinco Ranch has plenty of residential streets to explore, and some homeowners make a real event of decorating their properties.

Katy Magazine has highlighted standout houses here for several years, so check its latest map before you go.

One house, in particular, to look out for is the Oxley family haunted house on Parsonsfield Lane, where the family has spent the past several years turning their garage into a walk-through haunted house on Halloween night.

Just take note, Cinco Ranch is a big place, so choosing your starting point makes a difference. Check neighborhood Facebook groups for current recommendations, especially if you’re visiting from outside the community.

The HOA also hosts a resident-only trunk-or-treat before Halloween, but you can plan your own candy route through participating residential streets on October 31.

Alden Bridge & Panther Creek (The Woodlands)

Trick or treat Houston - Alden Bridge & Panther Creek (The Woodlands)

In Alden Bridge, Halloween decorations are serious neighborhood business. Bethany Bend is one of the streets to look out for, with residents adding to their displays year after year and competing in an annual decorating contest.

But the house that really deserves a spot on your route is The Doll House on West Greywing Circle. Resident Ana Bosch has collected and hand-painted more than 200 dolls since 2018, turning them into an elaborate Halloween display with dolls hanging from trees and themed rooms, including a Tea Room, Nursery, and Clown Room.

Add synchronized spooky music and lighting, and you’ve got the sort of house that makes kids cling to your arm while still begging to see what’s around the next corner. The Houston Chronicle has even featured the display.

There’s more to explore, too. Hello Woodlands publishes a yearly map of standout Halloween displays, including a circus-themed haunted experience on S. Winterport Circle with interactive characters and jump scares.

Check the latest map before setting out so you can find the houses that suit your family’s scare tolerance.

Then head over to Panther Creek for a different kind of Halloween fun. The village is known for its generous candy haul, and the merchant trick-or-treat event at Panther Creek Village Center gives families another chance to collect treats before Halloween night.

Traders Trick or Treat Trail at Traders Village

If your idea of trunk or treat in Houston means walking from car to car in a parking lot and being done before the candy has had time to settle, Traders Village offers a much bigger adventure.

The 105-acre open-air flea market runs its Halloween trail every weekend in October, sending kids through hundreds of vendor booths, food stands, amusement rides and costumed performers.

The trail is split into two experiences: younger kids can stick to the side with friendly characters, crafts and face painting, while older children can head toward the spookier surprises.

Once the candy bags are full, all-day ride wristbands are available for $14.99 so you and the whole family can enjoy the rest of the village regardless if they’re spooky or not.

Little Wrangler’s Trick or Treat at George Ranch Historical Park

Houston Halloween 2026 - Little Wrangler's Trick or Treat at George Ranch Historical Park

Most trick-or-treat trails take you through neighborhoods lined with ranch-style houses. At Little Wrangler’s Trick or Treat, you actually get to trick-or-treat through a historic working ranch.

The 23,000-acre George Ranch in Richmond becomes the setting for a Halloween route through four historic home sites dating from the 1830s to the 1930s, with candy waiting at each stop. You’ll pass an 1830s log cabin that was among the earliest settlements in Southeast Spanish Texas, a post-Civil War prairie home and an 1890s Victorian mansion.

Along the way, costumed interpreters share how 19th-century Texans observed All Hallows’ Eve.

There’s more to do after the candy run, including a pumpkin photo op and more seasonal activities. The ranch is about 30 miles southwest of downtown Houston, so give yourself some travel time.

Texas Renaissance Festival: All Hallows Eve Weekend

Halloween and the Renaissance Fair were bound to meet eventually, and All Hallows Eve Weekend at the Texas Renaissance Festival makes a pretty convincing case for the combination.

The festival dates back to 1974, when it opened on a former strip-mining site in Todd Mission. Today, its nearly 60 acres welcome more than half a million visitors a year, making it the country’s largest Renaissance festival by attendance.

During the October 31 and November 1 weekend, you’ll have 25 stages, more than 400 artisan shops, eight themed villages, jousting, fire performers, acrobats, belly dancers, fortune tellers and a cast of thousands in period costume to explore.

Then Halloween gets layered on top: the Transylvanian court joins the kingdom, pumpkins and spooky decorations appear throughout the grounds, and there’s a costume contest alongside the Kettle Corn Eating Contest at 4 p.m.

Kids can also go trick-or-treating around the festival.

It’s one of the few places where showing up as a vampire or witch won’t make you the most unusual person in the crowd.

Tickets are date-specific and non-refundable, so buy early. Planning to camp onsite? Book that even earlier, as Halloween weekend sells out.

When: October 31 – November 1, 2026 | 9:00 am – 8:00 pm
Where: 21778 FM 1774, Todd Mission, TX 77363
How Much: Ticket prices vary by weekend, starting from $25 – $40 per adult; Discounts available online in advance

Know Before You Go

If you’re heading out for Halloween night in Houston, plan your transportation and route before leaving home. Popular areas such as Montrose and Downtown can get crowded during Halloween events, while celebrations in Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland, The Woodlands, and other suburbs may require a separate drive. Give yourself extra travel time, especially if you’re visiting more than one event.

  • Getting Around: Parking can be limited near popular Halloween parties, so consider taking METRORail to accessible Downtown destinations or using a rideshare service. If you’re staying out late, plan how you’ll get home before the crowds leave at the same time.
  • Keeping Trick-or-Treaters Safe: Bring a flashlight or add reflective details to costumes so children are easier for drivers to see after dark. Stick to sidewalks when available, cross at well-lit intersections, and keep younger children close as you visit neighboring homes.
  • Dressing for Houston Weather: Halloween temperatures can vary, and the evening may feel warm and humid or cooler after a cold front. Check the forecast before heading out and choose a costume you can comfortably wear with an extra layer if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Halloween Night in Houston

What time does trick-or-treating start on Halloween night in Houston?

Many families head out around sunset, often between 5:30 and 6 PM, although the timing depends on the neighborhood and individual plans. Some children start earlier, while older kids may continue into the evening.

If you’re visiting a specific neighborhood or organized trick-or-treating event, check its schedule before you go. When visiting individual homes, look for signs that residents are participating and respect their property.

Are Houston Halloween block parties dog-friendly?

It depends on the event and venue. Some outdoor bars, patios, and neighborhood gatherings welcome leashed dogs, and certain events even hold pet costume contests. However, crowded street parties can be overwhelming for pets because of the noise, music, costumes, and large crowds.

Check the event’s pet policy before bringing your dog, and consider leaving them at home if you’re planning to attend a packed nighttime celebration.

What are the best indoor options if it rains on Halloween night in Houston?

If rain threatens your Halloween plans, look for indoor events at local museums, shopping centers, and family entertainment venues. Some organize special Halloween activities or indoor trick-or-treating, but schedules and participation vary from year to year.

Check the official event listings for Children’s Museum Houston, Memorial City Mall, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science to see what’s planned for October 31, 2026, before making the trip.
