This Friday is National Donut Day, a holiday started in 1938 to honor volunteers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. Like most food holidays, though, it’s become a day to eat a food you like and maybe take advantage of a discount, if you can.

Between 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., certain locations will give free coffee and a free donut to commemorate National Doughnut Day.
