With its central location and proximity to Downtown, it’s the perfect area for a nice dinner out, followed by drinks at one of the many bars around. If you live in Midtown, there’s no doubt that you’ve seen the line at this Midtown Houston restaurant wrapped around the corner. That many people can’t be wrong! They were even voted “Best Breakfast” and “Best Family-Friendly Restaurant” in the Houston Chronicles Best of the Best 2021. This is the spot to get down on some soul food, with options like their famous chicken and waffles and other diner-style meals. Make sure to get here early because this restaurant fills up every day of the week!

For a romantic restaurant near Midtown Houston, check out Artisans. They serve high-end French fare in an intimate and cozy space that’s perfect for date night. On top of their delectable French cuisine, they offer fun events like jazz night, dinner pairings, and even a hands-on cooking class with the chef.
Localite Tip: For the full fancy experience, you have to try their Gastronomique Menu – a six, seven, or eight-course meal perfectly crafted by the chefs here. It is available Monday through Saturday (only Monday through Thursday for the eight-course option), but you must reserve ahead of time.

If Guy Fieri says to eat somewhere, the people should listen. The “guy” knows his food. This restaurant in Midtown Houston was featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives thanks to their unique dishes like the famous Carrot Pizza and Braised Short-rib Sandwich. Their seasonal, handcrafted menu is constantly changing, but staples like their handmade pasta and wood-fired pizzas are forever.
Localite Tip: They’re open for breakfast from Tuesday to Sunday, so if you get that midweek hankering for some epic brunch or breakfast food, Weights and Measures has your back!
Gen Korean BBQ House

Gen Korean BBQ House is another restaurant in Midtown Houston that seems to always have a line out front, so you know they’re delivering the dankest food. But it’s not just the food here. It’s the whole experience. For those new to Korean BBQ, here’s how it works. They deliver the meat to your table, where you cook it yourself on the grill at your table. It’s all you can eat, so come hungry!
Oporto

Oporto offers Portuguese-fusion food in Midtown Houston, so it’s the perfect stop if you’re in the mood to try something new. The best way to enjoy Oporto is to order many small plates and share them amongst the table. Guests can’t stop raving about the Piri Piri BBQ Chicken, scallops, and empanadas, but no dish here will disappoint. Don’t forget to try the incredible Portuguese dessert as well, Pastel de Nata.
Localite Tip: If you love Oporto, check out their new concept da Gama off of Shepherd. It’s an Indian-Portugues kitchen with an organic wine and cocktail bar. Yummy!

The best sushi restaurant in Midtown, hands down, is Kanau Sushi. Their trendy dining room is accentuated with valet parking, an attentive staff, plenty of tasting menus to choose from, and the freshest sushi you can imagine. They offer a massive selection of sushi and sashimi and a variety of other dishes for anyone who might not fancy raw fish.
Localite Tip: Save yourself some cash and come for happy hour – daily from 4 to 6:30 and all day Sunday. They have specials on cocktails as well as food.
Cyclone Anaya’s

This Mexican restaurant in Midtown Houston has been a favorite for years now, but not many people know that the owner was actually the professional wrestling champion of Mexico! Once he met his wife, a former Miss Houston, the two decided to open a restaurant serving her original homemade Mexican recipes. Houstonians love their food along with their boozy brunches featuring giant margaritas, spicy micheladas, and, of course, mimosa carafes.

One of the lesser-known restaurants in Midtown Houston is Mantra, a plant-based kitchen that offers food free of gluten, soy, and refined sugar. Local favorites from the menu include coconut “calamari” and yucca fries. On top of their legendary vegan food, they’re praised for their epic customer service and chill vibes.
