Houston’s East End District has quietly become a hub for public art displays, and now, the area is home to 4 new striking murals for your viewing pleasure.
The new murals, created in collaboration with the East End Houston Cultural District, UP Art Studio, and local businesses include pieces by renowned muralist GONZO247, Sylvia Blanco, and Armando Castelan.
With the addition of the new murals, the East End District now offers more than 50 mural sites visitors to the area can enjoy throughout the 16-square-mile region.
Here’s some info about the newest murals:
- “Optimism Starts With You” —Â This mural was created by the popular local muralist GONZO247. It’s located at 2219 Canal Street and is presented in partnership with Frost Bank, CultureMap Houston, and Triten Real Estate Partners.
- “Magnolia Park Mini Mural”–This piece was created by local artist Sylvia Blanco and can be found at the intersection of Harrisburg Blvd. and 75th St. It’s a vibrant mural featuring traditional Mexican embroidery typically seen on Mexican dresses (huipiles). This piece is presented in partnership by UP Art Studio and the East End Houston Cultural District.
- “Gateway to Gus Wortham”–Artist Armando Castelan created this mural located at Wayside Drive and I-45 on the northwest side of the intersection.
- “Second Ward Mini Mural”–This mini mural was also created by Castelan and highlights historical scenes from the Second Ward. You can find this mural at the intersection of Navigation and York. This piece is presented in partnership by UP Art Studio and the East End Houston Cultural District.
