Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green is back, so head over and glide beneath the beautiful holiday lights of downtown Houston and experience the magic of the season!
The model boat basin at Kinder Lake is transformed into a winter skating attraction by Ice Rink Events, a Houston-based designer, producer, installer, and operator of ice rinks worldwide. The upgraded rink uses renewable energy-powered machinery and the ice rink border is made of recyclable plastic!
Best Ice Skating in Houston – Special events for 2022 at Green Mountain Energy Ice
Throughout the season, several special events will happen at the Green Mountain Energy Ice rink. The always popular Skate with Santa is back this year. You can groove to music trends through the decades with DJ Mohawk Steve! Other favorites such as Cheap Skate Mondays (only select Mondays) and Skating with the Stars on Saturday (select days only) are planned as well!
This year Green Mountain Energy Ice at Discovery Green is introducing a new special for college students. On select Thursdays, college students can show their current college ID to receive $2 off admission.

Excited to have fun and slide and glide through the coolest ice rink in Houston? Then get your gears ready and enjoy this Houstonian favorite from November 11 until January 29, 2023.

- Monday – Thursday: 5-10 pm
- Friday: 5-11 pm
- Saturday & HISD School Holidays: 11 am-11 pm (HISD school holidays include: Nov. 21-25; Dec. 22-30; Jan. 2-6 & 16)
- Sunday: 11 am – 8 pm
- Thanksgiving Day: 11 am – 11 pm
- Christmas & New Year’s Eve: 11 am-7 pm
- Christmas & New Year’s Day: 1-7 pm
On December 18 and January 15, the rink will close to the public at 5 pm. The last ticket sales are at 3:30 pm.

General admission is $17 (plus tax), with skate rental included. Plus, if you avail of Cheap Skate Mondays, tickets are just $8!
Other discounts include:
- Green Mountain Energy Discounts: Employees and customers receive a $2 discount. Proof of current billing or employee identification is required for entry.
- Bank of America Discounts: Customers and employees receive a $2 discount. Proof of customer card, billing, or employee identification is required for entry.
- Forever Green Members: Discovery Green members receive a $2 discount. Proof of member card is required for entry. Maximum 5 family members.
- First responders & Military Discounts: Receive a $2 discount for up to 5 people; must show valid I.D.
There are so many discount offers for everyone to enjoy! Just be sure to take note of the following reminders when purchasing your tickets:
- Discounted tickets must be purchased onsite. If the desired time slot is full, there may be a wait.
- Skaters must sign a waiver online after purchasing tickets. E-tickets will not be sent until the waiver is completed.
- All skaters must have a pre-purchased ticket to enter the venue.
- Skating guests under 12 may have one parent or guardian accompany them.
The ice rink may sometimes be closed or delayed due to weather conditions. Guests holding tickets will be notified via email, and their tickets will be refunded if weather closures are necessary at their reserved times.
